There are often descriptions of how the 6th function succeeds in the function of a particular 6th slot slot. How Fi 6th "marks out the important historical detail" or how Ti 6th "redefines and summarizes the time's contrived episteme". But these all sound as if possessing a "tertiary vibe". As if the leaps of 6th's success would be somehow tertiarating out of a 6th messy soup one's drowning in. After all, it feels like 6th is 6th because of its quality of being unhinged. If an axis is two bulls pulling a steering wheel, then 6th is a bull battling a PoLR chicken. And so the only way to ever perhaps try to steer the wheel in the other direction would be by some tertiary diagonal force.

You lost me ! I don't see why "mark(ing) out the important historical detail" would be Fi 6th (or Fi at all)
or why "redefines and summarizes the time's contrived episteme" would be Ti 6th. And i don't see what's tertiary-ish about it.
Now, on the other hand, this :
sounds quite right to me.
Well, the thing is 6th and 3rd share the same type (both Ji, Pi, Pe or Je). So they can compete against each others or complete each others, depending on health level and circumstances.
But that's also true for 6th and aux, since they share the same domain (both T, F, N or S).
